Preen like a Punk Rock Peacock

Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi's Preen debuted at the London Fashion Week during the Spring 2001 season, and since then the duo has continued to wow the fashion world with their modern Victoriana/ Punk Princess look. Count me as their latest fan because I have been obsessing over these dresses since I laid eyes on them! The "Power Dress" $1,295-- a skin tight bandage confection with a balloon skirt is modern and edgy, and totally unexpected. Their design influence spans not only decades but centuries - from early Briton, to Victorian to punk trash. A proponent of deconstruction and reconstruction of garments, the duo would rather call it "recycling," an idea that goes back when Justin Thornton was a graduate student working for Helen Storey. The duo is known for their use of antique fabric - battered leather, lace, tulle, glazed cotton, mixed with vintage trims - old jewellery, buttons, etc. The luxurious antique fabric and accessories are transformed into urbanwear. • That two tone blue dress looks really phenomenal. Looks very Thandie Newton. I can see her in it. And the colour just pops, doesn't it?

  • Preen! I got the power bandage dress as a gift and it is incredibly figure-flattering. The only part that I have a problem with is the back- there's a long, intentional unsightly zipper and bra-looking back straps that look like they're velcroed. Oh well. The dress still looks fierce. =) You're the first blog I've read that's mentioned it!

  • I'm loving the pink dress.
