I heard that Absolutely Fabulous (my favorite show in college!) just got optioned by Fox for a pilot– I am so excited! Of course it won’t be the same without Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders (who is slated to co-produce)– the original Patsy and Eddie– but I am praying they at least keep the saucy and sassy British humor of the original Ab Fab of the 90′s. I fell in love with Christian Lacroix while watching Ab Fab– as a young 20 year old I’d heard of him but never appreciated his insanely beautiful clothes until I watched darling sweetie Eddie obsess over him! I now own several Lacroix pieces and each one is like a piece of art. Owning Lacroix ready to wear is as close as you’ll get to Haute Couture without paying the prices. I know $4,895 is a lot for a dress but think of it as a $75,000 savings because an average day dress in his couture collection will run about $80,000. At Net-a-porter.com
Just been watching an 80′s documentary series on BBC4 where Lacroix was interviewed and they filmed his clothes being made – from the weaving of the fabric, to the catwalk, to the fitting on Nan Kempner. For the first time, I actually “got” him.
I shall now lurch off-topic and ask whether you had seen Mrs Beckham’s latest effort yet? The pictures are up at the DT website and they don’t look half bad. Still think that RM is a better bet, mind. There’s something attainable about his dresses: any one of us could look fabulous in the right one (even if you’re not a size dot). With her range, it looks like you’ve got to be the right body type and that there is only one. However, if you were that one person (who, frankly, is unlikely to be me) … Tina, did you ever get one? More and more it looks as though her collection’s a viable commercial and aesthetic proposition, so kudos to Mrs Beckham.
