Herve Leger Bandage Dresses: Timeless or Past their Prime?

user-pic

I'm the first to admit that I absolutely love Herve Leger bandage dresses, but these days it seems that everyone and their mother owns one (and I have to say I don't think these dresses are appropriate if you're 40-plus no matter how hot your bod is -- am I right!??). I'm one of those people that hates seeing someone else in a similar dress when I'm out and while there are about a million variations on the bandage dress -- as evidenced by the three above: Classic bandage dress ($790), Bow bandage dress ($950), and Rainbow bandage dress ($2,250) respectively --I've seen so many of them that I never wear my classic one out anymore (thankfully I bought it on sale at Intermix so I don't feel too guilty:)). That said I'm absolutely loving the Herve Leger High-waisted bandage skirts ($550). You get the sexiness of the bandage dress, but it's not something that you'll feel like every other person owns. Plus fitted skirts and simple t-shirts are such an easy and sexy look to pull-off (see Jess Simpson and Amanda Bynes below). What do you think about Heve Leger's Bandage Dresses?

  • Jessica doesn't look that fabulous in that pic, but Amanda does!

I think it's one of those over-saturated trends. Herve has got so much more dresses that look fabulous, especially the longer and gown-like variations... No idea why they're not being worn more!

  • Really saturated. But as for the age thing, it depends. I think Jennifer Aniston could wear one if she chose.

  • Sure they're everywhere, but they do work wonders! All the variations keeps it fresh, so I won't get tired of them any time soon :)

  • No No No, I love my Herve Leger dresses! Timeless and ageless, they hold everything in and perk up your mood and your bum :)

  • Really? Not for over 40? I'd have to disagree with this, but nor do I own one so who am I to say?

  • I think they're fabulous but only for certain figures (gotta have great legs for the short ones at least!) The key to not looking like everyone else is styling it with special acccessories. As for the age thing, I agree with the above poster, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore etc. could definitely pull it off, those ladies look better than most 20 year olds!

  • I personally would only buy a vintage gown, now that Max Azria of BCBG fame designs the Herve Leger line. Even then, it's hard to say whether the idea of the bandage dress can really be attributed to Leger -- Azzedine Alaia has been saying for years that Leger copies his designs.

  • I understand why people like them, but I kind of wish they'd go away. Eek.

  • No bandages over 40. The only bandages over 40 are the ones you wear on the way home from the surgeon.
