It would be an understatement for me to say that I am surprised at the announcement of Jil Sander taking over the design reigns at Japanese retail conglomerate UNIQLO (most items are under $50). To do a capsule collection is one thing, to take over the creative designs is entirely another. It’d be similar to Thomas Keller taking over the reigns at McDonalds (actually not a bad thought!). Jil Sander will take over the creative reins for all the retailer’s products excluding accessories and children’s wear. The Japanese brand and Sander are also working to develop a special Uniqlo collection, bearing the designer’s minimalist look, set to bow for the fall season.
As the shock slowly wears off, I am starting to get excited. I adore Jil Sander and will be looking forward to seeing her vision for the masses.

I’m a die hard Jil Sander fan, so I’m excited to have her designing again. Hopefully, the special collection will have Jil Sander style with the UNIQLO colors and prices.
Very very very excited about this new hire! Uniqlo is definitely one of my favorite high street style shops. They recently released a collab with Steven Alan and Opening Ceremony– did you see?
Hi Tina,
I think you mean Thomas Keller, not Kelley, taking over Mcdonalds..and that would be fab! Foie gras burgers anyone?
Can’t wait to see the collection!
I certainly meant Keller but wrote Kelley for some reason!?!?
Thanks for catching it and yes, foie gras burger please!
I dunno about this. The effect of Sander’s stuff comes from the impeccable tailoring and fit, also spelled $$$$$$$. We’ll see.
