We noticed that the Fall 2009 runways were rife with over-the-top, oversized necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Necklaces, in the form of layered chokers and bib styles were most popular, yet other forms of jewelry held their ground. We particularly loved the jewelry from Elie Saab (necklaces), Andrew Gn (earrings), Camilla Staerk (broach), Reem Acra (necklaces), Blumarine (bracelets), Vera Wang (necklaces), Christian Siriano (earrings), and Oscar de la Renta (necklaces).
Especially prevalent on the runways were the stunning designs by Subversive Jewelry, seen at the Rachel Roy. J.Mendel, and Trovata shows. To truly appreciate these stand-out pieces, consider how effortless they make getting dressed, adding style to the most basic of basics! Just think of how the perfect necklace can spice-up an oh so classic, yet oh so boring white oxford button-up! We've picked some really fabulous budget-friendly options to help you get the oversized, statement jewelry look. Let's start with the bracelets: our favorite options were bulky, angular, and without a ton of ornamentation, such as the Tux Bracelet by Nicole Romano, $120, both at Vivre.com.
Next up, our earrings selection was both eclectic, and distinctive- you want to make sure to wear something that will take up some space and define a presence, but won't veer too far overboard into the "just plain gaudy" category. With this in mind, we picked the Tusk and Rhinestone Earrings, $50 at Topshop and the Giant Curved Disc Hoop with Button Top, $9.99 at Girl Props.
We didn't see a ton of rings on the runway, but thought that this Oversized Red Ring by O Oscar by Oscar de la Renta for $60 at Vivre.com is a great conversation-starter, and definite statement piece in our book. Finally, we've arrived at the necklace options - there were so many excellent ones to choose from, that we could only narrow down our list to a minimum of seven options! To begin, let's look at the beaded selections; the Round Beaded Chain Necklace, $12.80 at Forever 21 and the the Patterned Bead Collar, $40 at Topshop are the perfect way to use beading and look ultra-hip while doing so!
We also can't pass up the cool retro filigree aesthetic of theDark Vintage Necklace , $12.80 at Forever 21 along with the true eye-catching statement necklaces -- theMulti Circle Necklace, $40, at Topshop theLeatherette Tortoiseshell Necklace, $17.42 at Kohl's and the Colorful Bib Necklace, $34 at Urban Outfitters.
We advise to take a little risk this spring/summer/fall and try out some statement jewelry -- we guarantee you'll be back for more!
