Jason Wu is now a household name thanks to our stylish First Lady but he has been on our radar since he designed gowns for the first lady of Mattel, Barbie. Wu will be launching his capsule collection next month called “Exclusives” that will comprise of just 8 pieces– a knit t shirt, three dresses, two jackets, a knit cardigan and a skirt. The items will be available in 15 colors and six fabrics including silk and cashmere and exclusive to each store that carries the line.
Wu said would like to bring back “Limited-edition clothing” and timeless basics that will last more than the season and bid adieu to the disposable fast fashion we’ve come to embrace in modern times. The line will be priced slightly less than his runway line and be carried at department stores from Bergdorfs to Nordstroms.
I love the idea; I have several timeless basics (a black Alaia skirt, a perfectly cut YSL cropped blazer and a Chanel cashmere T shirt) that I wear and wear and wear with new things each season. It actually saves money in the end because you pay for the quality. What do you think? Will you keep buying your basics at Banana or the Gap or invest in a few Jason Wu “Exclusives”?
