Fashion Astrology with Tyger Kahn: The Future of Fashion

Tyger: The decadent display of wealth in the last 16 years was an influence by Pluto in Sagittarius, Sag represents the fantasy (for example-- people buying 'it' bags weekly that they couldn't afford but offered the fantasy of what they perceived was real).  That's all gone now.  We are entering into a wonderful and positive period of Pluto in Capricorn-- which relates to reality.  Luxury will remain important but it will be a different type of luxury.  People will have more discerning taste-- it will be about how long did a piece take to make (whether it be a dress, bag or a pair of shoes), what is the material and longevity of the piece?  That is the affect of Pluto in Capricorn.  And not only clothing and jewels, beauty products will undergo a change.  We are more in tune and want to know-- what are the ingredients?  Instead of trends (fad diets, fad cleansing) people will want to adopt a sensible overall healthy lifestyle. 

Pluto in Capricorn is about structure, institution, tradition an administration.  There will be more government regulation over ingredients, especially organic products whether we like it or not. Even advertising is going to be different, and the nonstop images constantly thrown at us will slow down as well.  We will also see consideration from designers, too.  And we will see an emergence of designers from Germany, Eastern Europe and Canada who will be influential in fashion.

Tina: When you say structure, can that be applied to actual articles of clothing and shoes?  Because I've really been into RM by Roland Mouret and Alexander McQueen for the last year and half, their clothes have a structure that really appeals to me (and I'm not even a Capricorn!)  Also, shoes that look like building and very structured have been really on trend.

Tyger:  Most definitely, you will see even more structured and architecturally inspired fashion throughout the period.  Pluto has been in and out of Capricorn for a year and half now and will remain there for the next 16 years-- the last time we saw Pluto in Capricorn was in 1762-1778 so it's been over 200 years since we have had this influence!  Think about what's happening right now, for example-- the burka being banned-- that is Capricorn's influence of administration.  When has a government in modern society ever banned an article of clothing? This is what Pluto in Capricorn is.

Pluto is about shaking things up, about challenge and about reaffirmation.  No government should dictate what we can or can not wear.  There is a very conflicting energy between Pluto (shaking up tradition) and Capricorn (tradition, institution).  So with Capricorn in Pluto we will see a period of shaking up tradition.

Tina:  Wow, that makes perfect sense actually.  So what about the last 16 years when we when Pluto was in Sagittarius? 

Tyger: That was a period of excess and conspicuous consumption. Sagittarius is also about philosophy, travel, body, mind, spirituality-- did you notice everyone was ohming and yoging?  There was also a lot of ridiculous diets (raw foods juice fasts) and far flung ideas (strange forms of yoga in dangerously high temperature!?)-- that's going to transition to a more traditional idea of health and wellness. Pluto is a planet that challenges and changes. The challenge will change our tradition, our politics, our government, our institution and even the way we treat our physical bodies. Things will have to prove themselves to work before people will try. Products will have to prove it's worth and usefulness. 

Tina:  What about accessories?  Any thoughts on that?

Tyger: Watches will become new status accessory over jewelry as we become more obsessed with time. And we will see shift from the bling bling showiness of diamonds to a preference for a strand of classic pearls (and no one will know it's a $100,000 strand!).  A quieter elegance.

Tina: Interesting, I am a jewelry and watch freak, so I'm all covered then ;)  What about health and wellness, you mentioned that briefly earlier-- let's talk about that.

Tyger:  There will be major breakthroughs in medicine and plastic surgery. People will find alternate way to remain youthful and choose physical fitness over botox.  We will get down to the bones of things. People will have to stay in the work force longer so they have to be healthy, not just look young.

Pluto in Sagittarius was about being obsessed with youthful appearance.  There is a huge difference between timelessness and youthfulness.  Pluto in Capricorn will want to know what is the authority-- there will be more regulation in the cosmetic procedures industry and be more closely examined.  

Women will want a strong foundation through their body and health, not just rid of wrinkles or have bigger boobs.  A larger, more healthy body shape will become the ideal and we will focus on health and longevity.

The demands for materials is also shifting-- we want what is good for environment AND last long. Synthetics do not last long.  There will be a huge demand for viable, durable, long lasting material.  We've seen this for almost a decade now, Sagittarius dreams up the blueprint, Capricorn delivers it. Homes are going to be smaller and more useful as well.

Tina: What about something more specific, like hairstyles?

Tyger: Hair styles will become more organic to what your hair is and be cut with the way it grows instead of trying to twist and manipulate (straightening perms for curls for example). Layers and texture are coming back as is shorter hair. A good cut is one that works with the pattern of the way your hair grows and that works with your face-- it is also most flattering. Capricorn does not force itself, rather works with its current pattern.  Curls are making a big coming back. In about 18 months we will say goodbye flatirons and embrace curlers.

Tina: Unless you have stick straight hair like me, right?  I can't get a curl to last more than a few minutes!

Tyger: Yes, Pluto in Capricorn is a time to embrace what you do have and not trying to manipulate yourself into what you are not!
