For Fall 2010, Derek Lam was inspired by the Myth of the West and showed urban girls how to dress with cowgirl flair. This collection struck an emotional chord with me– 
I am a die hard city girl who grew up in the concrete jungle of Taiwan and followed the love of my life to the great plains of Texas. Ever since transplanting to the wild west I have struggled to combine my urban wardrobe with our current surroundings (this is a place where “Denim and Diamonds” and “Cowgirl Chic” is often the requested attire for cocktails!). Now I will have a template to follow– pieces like the Absinthe green crepe jersey and black bonded leather dress, a black haircalf vest over black stretch twill and leather riding pants and the many vintage leather jackets (with jeans, natch) will be apropos for my lifestyle both at home or in New York.
Of course every cowgirl needs her hat and boots (though not all of us want to ride in them!)– Albertus Swanepol hats worn with a leather and chiffon pleated skirt is uptown chic, especially with city slicker worthy wool felt coats and haircalf platform boots. I’m also obsessed with the fur pieces in the collection, you can’t get more glamorous than a white and black knit silver fox cardigan from Saga Furs!
If I had to choose, I’d say my favorite look came in the way of a black and white tweed print haircalf and vintage leather jacket with black vintage stretch leather riding pants (are you taking notes, Wayne?)– this will be my uniform come Fall 2010.
