I used to adore Alberta Ferretti dresses– they are glamorous, elegant and flattering in an other worldy way. But then I met her in person… and have not bought another Ferretti dress since. Not only was she rude to customers at the party honoring her, half way through the event she decided to pretend she doesn’t speak English so she didn’t have to speak to guests any more! I mean it’s fine if she actually DID NOT speak English but I’d just heard her conversing with someone earlier, in English. The event was in the US, so you’d think she’d want to connect with her customers??? Or bring a translator if she was shy? Whatever. She just unveiled her first online store, and will be providing styling advice to the site’s most loyal customers based on their purchases. It was reported that she’ll be contacting them directly to offer tips for styling. I’m guessing English speaking buyers need not apply?
WWD also reported that Ferretti said she wanted to build “a direct relationship that can be stimulating” for both herself and her customers. “I target contemporary women and I find it extremely interesting to be close to my customers, whom I love to advise and who are, for me, a very important source of inspiration.” Really, coulda fooled me.
If you care, her website is here.

Glad you expose designers for bag behavior! I’ve heard awful stories about her, too.
Tina, years ago my husband and I were in her boutique in nyc and she came in she was very rude to the sales people working there and she just ignored the customers. My husband and I left and could not believe how she behaved. When I started to read your article I knew exactly what you would say.
I’m not surprised.
There are soooo many beautiful dresses in the world to choose from, I’ll pass on Ferretti.
