You all know how we feel about Bottega Veneta bags but to see the runway live with complete looks as envisioned by Creative Director Tomas Maier was a dream come true! Maier showed a dark, rich palette of ink blue, chocolate, bottle green, carbon gray and black predominates, occasionally illuminated by touches of iridescent metallics. “The silhouette is the focus of the collection,” he said. “It starts powerfully, with a structured shoulder, then becomes gentler and more fluid on the bottom. Only when a woman moves do you see the line of body, the completion of the silhouette”. The collection was ethereal and beautiful, yet entirely wearable– what Maier does best. I love clothes with strong shoulders, it makes me feel more confident and I stand taller. My favorite looks were the dark iris pleated wool tulle dress with the season’s must have “Beetle” sandal (I want this shoe in every color!) and the bitter melon melange wool fur coat (it’s made of the same fabric as teddy bears!). It’s clear that Bottega Veneta’s Four Cornerstones (1. Contemporary functionality
2. Outstanding craftmsmanship
3. Innovative design
4. Highest quality materials) — ring true for its ready to wear as well. We visited the showroom the following day and were able to inspect the intricate handiwork on many of the pieces, including this amazing brocade and twill dress. I expect Hollywood’s brightest stars will be jockeying for this collection in upcoming weeks!
