Fashion and technology melded beautifully at Monday night’s Met Costume Institute Gala when Katy Perry arrived clad in a chiffon gown that–wait for it–LIT UP! Turns out she was wearing a dress by London-based fashion company CuteCircuit, whose specialty is wearable technology. “CuteCircuit is the first company to merge wearable and telecommunication technology to create emotionally rich experiences for users in the fashion, sport and communication industries,” the company’s Web site says. It certainly drew Perry her fair share of attention at both the dinner and afterparty, where she happily put on a light show for all to see. “It has a built in switch,” she laughed, alluding to inside her corseted bosom. “That way, if Anna [Wintour] tells me to turn that crap off, I can!” As it turns out, the lightbulbs built into the dress do have an expiration date–and a rather short one at that. At about 12:30am, she Tweeted: “My lights went out. Parties Ovah.”
