Remember when Tory Burch was all ballet flats and tunics? I hardly do, either! The woman has come a long way from East Hampton-casual. Her seriously substantial fall collection is making me want to move to a climate where the leaves crinkle up and fall off the trees. The two big winners: the “Beckett” fur-trimmed coat ($1,295) and “Ackley” fringed dress ($575). I can’t recall the last time tweed looked so fresh.

The “Beckett” coat is a sumptuous throwback to retro luxury. Gigantic coyote lapels make for a cozy shawl – and a look that is surprisingly lavish – and not-insanely fancy fur works on bright-red tweed. Gold-tone, double-breasted buttons infuse a hint of military. Knot the belt at the waist for a true cinch, and you’re automatically autumn-ready.

The lightly structured “Ackley” dress is equally chic. With a Mandarin collar, velveteen panels, and some frayed edges to keep things relaxed, this is a great winter alternative for a suit. Wear it to work with opaque black tights, and break out a red lip for drinks later on.
