After months of eager anticipation, the launch of 10 Crosby is finally here! As you well know, I have been a diehard Derek girl for years. Not only does this mean mega-expansion for the designer, this guarantees a new dimension to my already-cherished Derek Lam collection pieces. Resort 2012 marks the introduction to the little-sister line that isn’t so little at all – not only will 10 Crosby (named after his company headquarters and the hip young things he spots sashaying around the hood) hang next to proper collection pieces, the label is expected to surpass the main brand in sales and scope. Lithe model Hanne Gaby Odiele is the line’s muse, and her sense of louche (she helped style the lookbook) suggests these easy pieces are to be worn with ultimate nonchalance. Which makes them as versatile as can be. Pull on the jumpsuit with softly ruffled hem and layer it with print sweaters or shawl-collared jackets; or belt the graphic-print shirtdress under a blazer and toss it over bootleg pants – and think nothing of it as you hit the downtown scene.
