Shakuhachi Don’t Mess With Me Long Dress and Pleated Leather Dress: These Pleats are Made to Please

Is it just me or are Australian designers killing it lately when it comes to ready-to-wear of the edgy, youthful, and affordable vein? Shakuhachi designer Jessie White seems to get how girls want to dress at the moment – her take on black pleats is spunky, sexy, and far from boring. The LBD just got revamped.

Craving the leg-revealing appeal of a mini but the breezy, casual flow of a maxi? The Don’t Mess With Me dress ($330) (the name says it all, except I have a feeling this number will still get tongues wagging) means you don’t have to compromise. A pleated waist fans out to a gauzy-sheer skirt with the drama of a gown, but the boned bodice and sculpted strapless neckline gives you the structure you crave in a going-out dress.

Okay, I’ll admit for nearly $500, you would expect a “leather” dress to be, duh, leather. But, like with many Stella McCartney pieces, this one ($484) is too good to pass up, even if it’s in the – dare I say it? – pleather category. Besides, it will breathe and won’t stretch out. The cut is all school-girl cute – a raised waistline will give you the appearance of cartoonishly long legs – but with the look of shiny leather, it suggests a naughtiness that even the most innocent of girls can’t deny.
