Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2012 Collection: The Great Outdoors

As a fashion team, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough do a lot of things well. One of their top talents? Harnessing outdoorsy and athletic inspiration into city looks that the chicest women crave. From their Baja jackets and Navajo prints to their sexy surfers cruised far past the beach, they’ve established their sensibility. Now Proenza Schouler is on to the Himalayas for Pre-Fall 2012.
Actually, they just got back from the mountains. After an adventurous vacation, the boys realized they had a new muse. Parkas, sleeping bags, bungee cords, sweatshirts, nylon quilting, and Velcro. It sounds entirely anti-fashion, but these aren’t just any old designers. All of these elements have been appropriated into mod-inspired and well-tailored looks with a focus on saturated color, tweed jackets included.
Glamour entered the picture via silk-brocade bra-tops and cocktail dresses, but that’s as far as it went. Even their classic paneled baby-doll frock is pronounced with a bungee cord serving as a belt. While the looks are more cute than revolutionary, Proenza only cements the fact that they have a trademark aesthetic that is holding its momentum.
