Young and hip as always, Milly maintained her leg up on the freewheeling and flirty competition for Spring ’13, while sticking to her roots. Color-blocking still plays an important role for Milly. Playful without looking childish, some looks ride the sporty wave with super-slick paneling and slicker-yet clear and metallic-silver windbreakers, while others treat us to just a small serving of sex appeal, with their body-con seams, emphasis on the waist, and mesh panels in all the right places (as long as you have the bod to rock them). But the best in my book are on the overtly femme side – and, of course, sexed-up enough for girls’ night fun. I am so going to rock the hoop skirts!
Finished in ribbon soutache or lurex gauze, they are easily sophisticated enough to show adequate maturity, so it’s the best of both worlds. The best part: it’s not for any sort of Miss Priss. Tees laden with mirrored appliqués, as if snatched right off a disco ball, are great fun pieces to dress up or down. And so are trouser-cut leather shorts, for that matter. I’m seeing a lot of lab goggles this season; you have to be pretty damn cool to pull those off. Paired with high-waisted wiggle skirts of silver foil and major stretch, you’ve also got to have the attitude to match.
