Top 5 Mixed Print Dresses: No Mixed Messages
By Couture Snob Tina
November 12, 2012

A.L.C., Derek Lam, Aquilano Rimondi, Peter Pilotto, Versace Mixed-Print Dress

Mixing prints can definitely go wrong, but when done right, it’s so right! This trend is not for the weak. Be adventurous, but err on the side of caution. Keep your shoes and bags simple, and minimize jewelry (sometimes there’s already some on the dress!). It’s about finding harmony in the chaos. If it makes you more comfortable, ease into the style with subtle prints and tones. Once you’ve mastered that, you can go loud and proud! Here are some of the best of the bold:

1. Peter Pilotto Mik Printed Silk Dress: Colorblocked mixed prints! The guys at Peter Pilotto like to tackle at least two trends at once. The partial pleats give it a sexy tennis-skirt bounce.
At Bergdorf Goodman for $2,235.

2. Derek Lam Mixed-Print Combo Dress: One of the best ways to mix and match is using one for the top and another for the base. Derek kills it with this leopard-calf combo.
At Neiman Marcus for $1,190.

3. Aquilano.Rimondi Printed Long-Sleeve Dress: I generally think mixed prints work better with tighter tailoring, but the loose romantic sleeves on this silk number are too gorgeous!
At Neiman Marcus for $1,095.

4. Versace Jewel-Print Stretch-Silk Satin Mini Dress: These bold graphics look straight out of a video game! This is the most playful print, and that’s the whole point of mixing.
On Net-a-Porter for $795.

5. A.L.C. Whitney Printed Silk Crepe de Chine Dress: Great for fall, plaid and paisley make for sophisticated chic. Try a schoolgirl look by pairing the dress with oxfords.
On Net-a-Porter for $594.
