Red, the color of prosperity and happiness in Chinese culture (traditional Chinese brides wear red, not white!), has lit up the fashion world. The bright pigment has been splashed across celeb style, street style, and even menswear. It was the most popular shade on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, and I’m not talking about the actual carpet! Marion Cotillard did it best, remembering that it’s important not to appear as if you’re sprouting from the ground. Her tomato-hued Dior dress had just enough orange to pop. And while Jessica Chastain may have gone sea foam for the awards, she walked the streets of NYC is a red hot Michael Kors coat (love the circle pockets!). A redhead in red? Some say not the best combo, but I think we have photographic evidence to the contrary here. Gwyneth Paltrow went for a shorter, darker coat, and Emirates Woman assistant editor Cherith Nicholl tried the color on harem pants. It’s not just about ladies in red anymore, either – men are getting in on the trend! British rapper Tinie Tempah, named the best dressed man of 2012 by GQ, stepped out this week in a bold red suit and Tom Ford specks, on trend with recent runway shows. It seems clear that the reigning shade of the season is rouge indeed!
