I’ll be honest: I was shocked at what I saw at the J Brand presentation last night. Completely bowled over. How often do you see a denim brand elevate themselves into the realm of hyper-covetable clothing? It’s hard to believe this is the same LA-based, cult-favorite denim brand. When a line known for hipster jeans announces a “real” collection, one usually envisions emblazoned T-shirts and trendy wares, but J Brand has done the impossible. Their Fall 2013 collection proves they are damn good at ready-to-wear. And wear you will because it doesn’t get much more wearable than J Brand. Better yet, these clothes are superbly well-made. Gorgeously lush suedes and buttery leather command a Fall collection packed with solid staples.

This is lean, mean streetwear at its most accessible and appealing. It’s what the urban woman needs to get through her day: un-prissy, she doesn’t have time to fuss with ruffles or fluff, and she needs layers that live with her. Belt-cinched waists and wise proportion play (think voluminous jackets, whether cropped and boxy or longish and full, juxtaposed against super-skinny leggings in leather and waxed treatments) have me dreaming up countless combinations. I would buy every single piece, starting with the casually pleated leather pants. (Luckily, I’ve already got a jump: the Claudette super-skinny jeans they gifted me are the softest of soft (and paper-thin) leathers. I felt like I was wearing nothing. And yes, I felt super-skinny.) Be prepared to get branded – and like it – come fall.
