Lanvin Suitcase Honeymoon Set

user-pic

pic111.jpg

Ladies, let me make something clear: you do NOT have to be a new bride to snap up this nifty and unique Lanvin piece. Alber Elbaz, who not too long ago designed an engagement ring for Van Cleef & Arpels and, more recently, launched a Lanvin bridal line, clearly has matrimony on his mind. With that, he's created what he calls a "honeymoon suitcase"--a white glazed canvas case with silver-tone hardware, wood handle, clip fastenings, fuchsia printed lining and printed honeymoon accessories. Talk about a fab wedding present! The multicolored printed accessories included with the case include a printed cotton tote bag with grosgrain handles, pompom-embellished raffia flip flops that come in one size and a large printed pareo that's both versatile and stylish. Note: the white bikini in the shot is not included, but available separately at Net-a-porter.

Jennifer Aniston in Lanvin & Ferragamo Clutch

user-pic
jenn_aniston_lanvin_premiere1.jpgjenn_aniston_lanvin_premiere2.jpg

In a surprising deviation from her usual monochromatic minidress look, Jennifer Aniston opted for a two-piece Lanvin for the red carpet premiere of her new film, "The Switch," Monday night in L.A. While she usually wears either some form of nude or black, Aniston chose to combine her two favorite hues (black is technically not a color, but a shadow). Can I be honest? Not a fan. Is it just me or does she look squeezed into the outfit? I love the skirt but the top isn't doing it for me. I would've paired the asymmetrical ruched skirt with an oversized crisp white man's shirt and pulled her hair back in a tight ponytail. It's a look she's done before--and with much aplomb. The shoes, however, are classic and the clutch--a black croco Ferragamo maxi clutch--is divine.

Flight 001 SpacePaks

user-pic

Flight 001 is one of my fave stores in NYC and a must-stop for me whenever I'm about to take a trip. They literally have anything and everything you need (and a ton of things you'll want, but probably don't need!), as you prepare for your travels. One of their most popular collections are their SpacePaks. The line includes paks for your clothes, shoes, lingerie, suits and more, all of which are designed to maximize space in your suitcase. You're probably thinking like I initially did, how can packing an extra case help you achieve more space?? Well first off let me specify this isn't a magic product - you need packing skills to maximize its efficacy! However if you pack your clothes to fit exactly the dimension of the pak, the pak gets rid of excess air and since clothes are (ideally) packed super-tightly, there is less wiggle room between the clothes which in turn means less wrinkling. Check-out this video for a demo. Aside from the space-saving factor, it's conveniently split into a clean section and a back section for dirty laundry.

Don't get me wrong, for a very long time I couldn't have cared less about being an effective packer, but now that airlines are charging for every piece of checked luggage - I care and every bit of extra space helps!

Uterque

user-pic

Since so many of us are traveling now that it's finally summer, I thought I would highlight another popular European chain of boutiques. You wouldn't know it from the outside, but Uterque is owned by the same folks behind Zara. The boutiques have the same minimalist-sleek decor as Zara stores, but they're a lot darker, sexier, and have significantly less merchandise clutter. In fact they're so dark and minimalist, you might walk by one of the boutiques thinking it's closed! Prices are about double what you'd find at Zara and they have everything from ready-to-wear and handbags to shoes, jewelry, hats, and gloves. You'll find Uterque locations in Spain, Russia, Turkey, Greece, Belgium, among others (see their website for full list) and they're most definitely worth going out of your way to check-out. The quality-for-price is great and they always have a slew of everyday staples I want to wear straight-out-of-the store!

Bimba & Lola

user-pic

I went to Madrid a few months ago to visit a friend who moved there for work. While the gorgeous city has got every designer brand you could think of (and many of them are conveniently close to the city's major museums!), the best discovery I made while I was there was Bimba & Lola. I keep meaning to start a Facebook group "Bring Bimba & Lola to the US!". The store has an amazing selection of affordable (think about double the price of Zara), ready-to-wear, shoes, handbags, and jewelry. They have a slew of boutiques around Spain and recently expanded to Asia (they have locations in Portugal, France, and a few other countries as well...). If you're traveling to Europe or Asia I urge you to look at their site to see if there's a Bimba & Lola boutique in the city where you'll be! The boutique targets 20 to 40-somethings and they've got a slew of original pieces that will take you from the office to the bar. The over-all aesthetic is feminine, but understated and most of the designs come in both neutral as well as popping colors.

Julianne Moore in Bottega Veneta

user-pic

I love that Julianne Moore loves wearing red-- most red heads shy away but it's a fab color on their pale skin!  She's in Bottega Veneta Pourpre (Dark Red) Silk Georgette Evening Gown and Black Satin Knot Clutch to the premiere of her new movie "Chloe" at the London Film Festival.   The simple column gown in whisper soft georgette drapes beautifully!

Disco Chic: Alexander Wang Asymmetrical dress

user-pic
aw7093.jpg

Times sure have changed, there was a day when I'd just be leaving the house to dance the night away at 10pm on a Saturday night-- now you're more likely to find me coming in by 10pm on a Saturday night.  But a girl can still live vicariously through her memories.  Let's see-- what would I wear if I was on my way out tonight??  Definitely Alexander Wang's asymmetrical dress-- this is the hottest dress I have seen all week!  It drapes, curves and hugs in all the right places, see how it can hide arm fat and a bulging tummy?!?! No need to starve or diet, embrace your curves with this gorgeous plummy colored dress! Heart pounding, finger itching to click on size 0... I love it with Prada studded platforms and Michael Kors studded clutch.  For the less adventurous, any old pair of strappy black shoes will do-- but the clutch is a must have at $198!  You don't need much jewelry but a single piece of standout like this lucite pair from Erickson Beamon is key to pulling it all together.  Now this is an outfit that will wear well til the wee hours of the night!

The Denim Explosion: Snob or Slob?

user-pic
denimbagalexwang.jpgjohannemills151.jpglautrechosedenimshoes.jpg
I love my jeans as much as the next girl but the barrage of denim accessories (bags, shoes, jewels) this season is just way too much even for a blue jean loving girl like me. We know how you feel about LV's denim bag but what about the items above that look like they were made for Britney Spears!?!?
1. Alexander Wang Denim Leather Brenda Zip Bag $755
2. Johanne Mills Earrings $205
3. L'Autre Chose Denim Wedge Sandal $237

What do you think of the Denim Explosion?  Snob, Slob or Trailer Trash?

Shopping the Spring Trends

user-pic
Smart shopping for the season will help you save money and time. I'd start with shopping in your own closet first. If you can find favorite pieces that will work again, why not pull them out? sakstrends.jpg
1. Short Sleeve Jackets- We all have a short sleeve jacket in our closets, this is not a new trend but a timeless shape that returns every few season.  If you don't, check out Saks for a great selection.

2. Aggressive Shoes- Black, embellished, geometric.  Think dominatrix.  Win a fabulous pair of wedges from Joie at The Shoe Goddess site!

3. Oversize Jewelry- The bolder the better when it comes to jewels this season.  Pull out the bling and let it rock.  Check out the fabulous selections at Net-a-porter.com here!

4. Relaxed Cropped pants- This is an easy look to pull off for all body types.  Even your boyfriend's pants rolled up will work but I love this pair of Mara Hoffman Silk Cropped Pants .

5. Slouchy Bag- Hobos are back and there are many styles and colors to choose from.  I like a bright color for the summer-- check Bag Snob for the latest hobo bags!

6. Romantic Blouse- Will top off a pair of jeans or slouchy cropped pants beautifully.  There are many to choose from including this gorgeous Elizabeth and James Tokyo Top .

7. Brighter Lips- If nothing else, buy a bright lip gloss to update your look!  YSL Pur gloss has many great shades for the season.
