Emma Watson gets ethical with People Tree collaboration

user-pic

peopletreeemma.jpgEmma Watson recently revealed the fruits of her gap year, the actress has collaborated with People Tree on a range of clothing due to launch in 2010. People Tree, the London-based label that aims to promote sustainable and fair trade fashion, will launch the collection called People Tree Love Emma for February. "It has been the most incredible gap-year project," said Watson, referring to her time off between high school graduation and her first year at Brown University.

People Tree said in lieu of paying Watson, all royalties from the collection will be donated to the People Tree Foundation, which aims to help farmers and artisans benefit from fair trade. There are 26 pieces for women and 15 for men in the collection, including knitwear, cotton T-shirts and jersey dresses, along with home accessories such as embroidered throws. All the pieces are handmade by fair-trade manufacturers in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. The collection will be sold at exclusive stockists in the U.K., Ireland and Japan, and the company is in talks to launch the collection in the U.S., a spokesman for People Tree said. The line will also be sold at peopletree.co.uk.

Gaultier heading to Target

user-pic
gaultiertarget.jpgtarget918.jpg
What can be more exciting than waking up to the news that Jean Paul Gaultier has joined the long line up of Target capsule collections? Gaultier is known for his wild and edgy Parisian street style and over the top couture. How will that translate at Target? I bet fabulously. The collection won't launch for a while but the ball is in motion and all of us Gaultier groupies will wait with abated breath. Via WWD

Anna Sui For Target!

user-pic

annasuitarget.jpgAnna Sui channels the posh girls of "Gossip Girls" in her capsule collection for Target (to launch today at her Crosby boutique!). To celebrate Fashion's Night Out, the store will be open until 11pm. I can't wait to see this collection!!!

Sui, a devoted fan of the hit tv show told WWD "I thought the characters were so dynamic, so different and each represented a different aspect of my design," In the Target collection, Serena's European heritage and relaxed American style led to a leather jacket, $149.99; Blair's love of old-time glamour and modern fabrics informed a metallic jacquard dress, $59.99; Jenny's penchant for uptown couture inspired a silk off-the-shoulder striped dress, $59.99, and Vanessa's bold personality is reflected in a sleeveless silk wrap dress, $59.99.

If you're in NYC, head over to the Anna Sui boutique at 54 Crosby St!

FIT Couture Council Party kicks off Fashion Week!

Carson Kressley and I

The Couture Council of the Museum at FIT kicked-off the Fashion Week festivities yesterday with a luncheon at Cipriani to present the 2009 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion to Dries Van Noten and what a fun event it was! First off the MC for the event was Simon Doonan -- a total ideal of mine. He walked into Cipriani right in front of me and was sporting a Goyard messenger bag with his initials in big letters on the front flap (though I don't like Goyard, Doonan looked adorable!). When it came time to "shush" the crowd he hollered -- "Hello! Attention please! Hello! What am I chopped liver!?" Did I mention that I love him?! The crowd was very ladies-who-lunch and the question du jour was unsurprisingly "Is that a Dries dress?" (when I walked-out I saw Bill Cunningham and briefly spoke with him -- he too asked me if I was wearing Dries!). I spotted plenty of fashionistas -- Linda Fargo, Hamish Bowles, Amy Astley, Julie Gilhart, Iman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Phillip Lim, Nina Garcia, Isabel Toledo, Fabiola Beracasa and many more. As for my table, though it was only half full (pre-fashion week busy-ness I assume), I couldn't have been more excited to be seated next to Carson Kressley of "Queer Eye" fame. He was wearing the most fabulous Cartier watch and diamond ring  (when I complimented him on them he belted out "they're all for sale!"). Kressley is really just as he appears on TV and I was excited when he told me he was heading to Vegas soon to film a new Top Model-esque reality competition show for ABC (it will premier in January and Beth Ostrosky will also be involved). Also at the table was Amanda Hearst who was super sweet and gushed about how much she is liking working at Marie Claire and how great Nina Garcia is. More after the jump!

Richard Chai -- Love

user-pic

chailove.jpgchailove2.jpg
Exciting news on the fashion front: Richard Chai is launching a complete contemporary collection -- nearly 40 looks in all. He wants you to know that "it's not a baby version or dumbed-down version of my main line," he says. It's his vision of the female counterpoint to his men's wear -- hence the name Richard Chai - Love. "It's inspired by my girl, who's in love with the guy that I dress," he continues. "They're not carbon copies of each other, but they go hand in hand."

Awww, how cute is that? The line will retail from $120-$750 and will be available Spring 2010.

Jessica takes the stage at Paris Fashion Show, take that Tony Romo!

Jessica Simpson is the special guest model at the Ozlem Suer fashion show in Paris, France. Love how she's got that model pout going and flaunting her bodacious curves. Nothing like prancing down a catwalk at an international fashion show to say effyou to a cheating ex.

Donatella covers OUT

user-pic

donatellaout.jpg Donatella Versace is featured on the cover of 'OUT' magazine this month with model Paul Sculfor (yes the one Jen dated). The two were photographed by Alexei Hay. Versace was asked if there is such a thing as being too sexy or seductive. "Never, never!" Versace says. "You can be too boring, but you can never be too seductive." Amen to that sister.

The ever bizarre Lady Ga Ga covers V magazine and looks part Donatella Versace/ part poodle in the magazine feature photographed by Mario Testino. You know, I never realized how great her figure is cuz she's usually dressed like some sort of muppet medusa. If this singing thing doesn't work out she can always give Hugh Hefner a call.

V magazine hits the stands this week. Does seeing this make you want to rush out and grab your copy?

Opening Ceremony Boutique launches in Tokyo!

user-pic

olsenhumberto.jpg
One of the coolest boutiques on the planet now has a space in Tokyo. Opening Ceremony is known for its gallery of four different perspectives--established designer (designers that best exemplify the country), emerging designer, one of a kind vintage pieces and select items from the open-air markets. It's been one of my favorite boutiques in NYC since it opened and can't wait to troll the 8 level Tokyo flagship store soon. Some of my fave Celebs flocked to the opening event-- the Olsens, Alexander Wang (how does he have the time with Fashion week coming up!?!?), Chloe Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst, the list is a paparazzi's dream! No worries if you couldn't make it-- you can

Amber Valletta in V Magazine

user-pic

amberv1.jpg
Check out Amber Valletta in the September issue of V Magazine in a pictorial photographed by Hedi Slimane and styling by Clare Richardson (all for V Magazine). Hedi's pictures strip her down to a very clean, essential Amber look. I love these photos of the super model/actress, she is so gorgeous with the razor sharp cheekbones!

"AMBER'S NEXT ACT" by V Magazine

Supermodel and actress Amber Valletta isn't about to take the easy route to Hollywood. She wants the full experience - from sci-fi to Shakespeare - and her new tweaked-out film GAMER is proof of that. Here she talks about the fashion-film divide and shows off the most essential denim looks of the season. (Jump for more!)
