DC Comics Collaborations

user-pic

To celebrate their 75th Anniversary, DC Comics has teamed-up with Colette for a limited edition collection of apparel and accessories. The collection was inspired by the DC super heros and has been designed with the help of a slew of A-list designers including couturier Alexis Mabille, Balmain, Lanvin, Sonia Rykiel, Roger Vivier... There are bunch of fun pieces in the line, but I looove the Karl Lagerfeld gloves ($607) pictured above - so Karl! The only unfortunate part is their price tag. There's no way that I could justify spending this much on Green Lantern-inspired gloves! They are a collector's item though, so if you happen to be comic-obsessed perhaps you'll find them to be a worthy investment.

Uterque

user-pic

Since so many of us are traveling now that it's finally summer, I thought I would highlight another popular European chain of boutiques. You wouldn't know it from the outside, but Uterque is owned by the same folks behind Zara. The boutiques have the same minimalist-sleek decor as Zara stores, but they're a lot darker, sexier, and have significantly less merchandise clutter. In fact they're so dark and minimalist, you might walk by one of the boutiques thinking it's closed! Prices are about double what you'd find at Zara and they have everything from ready-to-wear and handbags to shoes, jewelry, hats, and gloves. You'll find Uterque locations in Spain, Russia, Turkey, Greece, Belgium, among others (see their website for full list) and they're most definitely worth going out of your way to check-out. The quality-for-price is great and they always have a slew of everyday staples I want to wear straight-out-of-the store!

Rihanna in Chantal Thomass Lace Gloves

user-pic

I can't bear to see one more image of an over-the-top Lady Gaga outfit. The sheer underwear, the jumbo shoes, the latex one-pieces - it's just all too much and her looks don't even strike me as original at this point! Rihanna - the original Gaga - has still got it going on though! Above she's pictured wearing lace Chantal Thomass dentell'issime gloves for her latest music video "Te Amo." The gloves go for 65 euros and hit stores the end of July. I wouldn't wear these full-on exposed, but peaking out from a slinky long-sleeved short dress these could be a gorgeous and original finishing touch. Check-out Chantal Thomass' website for more from the Parisian designer. She's got some fabulously sexy lingerie that gives Agent Provocateur and Kiki a run for their money!

Celeb Fave: Phillip Lim 3.1 Studded Gloves

user-pic

beyonce.jpg

I'm not surprised that Beyonce has been photographed in the 3.1 Phillip Lim Studded Leather Gloves ($395), she's been all about hand adornments ever since this Sasha Fierce thing came-out...I'm glad she opted to wear both gloves this time! I'm sooo not getting the whole uni-glove trend. I also don't particularly like either of the outfits that Kim K and Beyonce are wearing above, but I do like these gloves. Paired with a wide-legged suit, dark shirt and coat, I think they would look fab. Just don't wear these against leather or risk some serious biker over-kill!

What do you think about Lim's studded gloves? Snob or Slob?

Three Blondes New York

user-pic

Two of my friends, Summer Rej and Jennifer Meyers, launched their on jewelry, glove, and hair accessories line recently and it has already been featured in the fashion bible, Vogue (well, online at least:-) ). It's called Three Blondes New York and it's currently available at Clyde's on Madison in NYC as well as online. The line is super-feminine with lots of pink, gold, and glitz (their launch party was an Alice and Wonderland themed tea party!), and the pieces have a distinctive old-world charm (think antique lace gloves). Summer and Jennifer have dabbled in fashion for years -- before going off to college they started a line of tees that featured sassy statement like, "I summer in the Hamptons," "Debutante Striptease," and "Ladies who Lunch," that became popular in young UES circles (on a side note when she was still in High School Summer came-up with a color for a Chanel polish, Tickled Pink, that was actually put into production!). The Three Blondes New York offerings are pretty wide and obviously I'm biased because I know the designers, but if you're looking for an under $100 gift for a girly-girl, I would recommend checking the pieces out!

Glam Rock: Get the look!

user-pic
GlamRock.jpg

I am a bit obsessed with Alexander McQueen's Black Leather fingerless gloves-- I see it as the modern day version of lady like gloves, except the lady lives in a walk up in SoHo and could care less what others thought of her.  You can get it in many versions, including this strangely appealing clutch here.  But to complete the Glam Rock Goddess look, one needs the appropriate wardrobe-- I've chosen a few of my faves for the season.

Miu Miu Pleated Jersey Dress- Who knew blue and ruffly could look so urban chic!?

Diane von Furstenberg Davinia sequined silk top - Skinny leather legging with this top and the gloves, I die!

Miu Miu Leather Biker Jacket- Every rock goddess needs a biker jacket, this is much more glam than the one Joan Jett sported but every inch bad ass.

See by Chloe Sequin-embellished dress- I see this with a pair of knee high boots and of course, those gloves!!!

Gareth Pugh Fingerless Gloves: Snob or Slob

GARETH PUGH - TWO TONE LEATHER BIKER GLOVES

Love the 80's influenced fashion of late but am not loving the fingerless gloves from Gareth Pugh circa Michael Jackson when "Beat It" was in every kid's walkman (casette version-- remember those?). I'm not cool enough to get Gareth Pugh, the collection is always ugly to me and just a bit on the creepy side. What do you think of the
