This past New York Fashion Week I was backstage at Erin Fetherston when I met Cologne Schmidt. This was weeks before Stylista premiered so I had no idea when we started chatting that she was one of the contestants of the much talked about Anne Slowey reality show Stylista. She promised an interview when the show premiered and she totally delivered! Cologne is such a sweet person and anyone who has watched the show so far can tell she has great style. What attracted you to Stylista?
Being a fashion editor at a highly reputable fashion magazine has always been a dream job of mine. A fashion editor has the unique ability to combine creativity and intelligence. You have to always be ahead of trends and be able to predict where the fashion world is going next. Decisions a fashion editor makes can essentially change the way people dress, shop, and think about style. You have to have a love for fashion, innate eye for style, creative vision, and intellectual capacity. It is a fast-paced job that requires a lot of involvement and ambition. To be honest, it is exactly what I would love in a career. Also, Elle is one of the most ideal magazines for me to work at. It is fast-paced, reputable, smart, and beautifully laid-out. I admire the talented minds that generate Elle each month and I was excited to get to know more about what it was like. More after the Jump!
Though I live a hop, skip, and a jump away from all the Bees (Bendel's, Barney's, Bergdorf's, Bloomie's...), there is a lack in cute boutiques in my Upper East Side area. What do you consider fashion must-haves for women?
High wasted pencil skirts, wide leg trousers.
Any fall/winter trends you're super-excited for?
Belted coats.
Any fall/winter trends you hope don't catch on?
Anything with fringes. I've seen boots, bags, clothing...it can look outdated if you don't pick the right item and match it with the right styles.
