Victoria Beckham Denim

user-pic

Way before Victoria Beckham ever got into dress-making she made her name designing amazing denim. Does anyone else remember that collection she did with Rock & Republic where she had all those jeans with hot pink crowns on the back pockets? I don't know that I'd wear them still today, but when they first came-out there were no pairs of jeans more coveted among my friends and I. Now VB is getting back in the denim game. During New York Fashion Week she made a personal appearance at Bergdorf Goodman where her new Denim line just launched. In addition to snug-fitting jeans, she's also got some leggings -- I'm particularly loving the pink ones pictured above with a back, blue zipper detail. Check-out the full denim collection here.

J Brand Light-Weight Denim Leggings

user-pic

jbrand_lightweight_denim_leggings.jpg

Fake jeans that are actually leggings are gross. But super thin real jeans that can easily tuck into boots are awesome! My calves are such that when put in boots there is not much room left for jeans of normal thickness, so instead of pouting about not being able to wear boots over jeans, I have these J Brand Denim "Leggings". They are jeans in every way except wafer thin. They are stretchy and oh-so comfortable!! I have 2 pairs in gray and dark denim and they take turns being on me. At Net-a-Porter for $170.

Gray Matters

user-pic

grey matters.jpg
I have had a gray obsession for years. It's a softer alternative to black and is always so chic and pretty.  I especially love wearing tonal gray shades together; it gives your outfit depth and keeps it from looking blah or depressing cuz let's face it, gray is not the most cheerful of shades!  Gray is sophisticated with silver jewels but with gold it is stunning and unexpected.  To add a bit of gray to your wardrobe, I found a few of my favorite grays of the season.  Starting clockwise from the left:
Dacute Light shearling jacket $1295

Rebecca Taylor The Socialite satin dress $295

Preen Line Asymmetric cotton trench $690

Lee Angel Serena glass-pearl necklace $285

Pringle of Scotland Rabbit-trim cashmere scarf $1350

Adam Woven jersey sweater $275

7 for all mankind Roxanne corduroy skinny jeans $180

Milly Jersey long-sleeved dress $395

Brian Atwood New Davis suede boots $1475

3.1 Phillip Lim Silk eyelet-embellished dress $525

Juicy Couture Sequin-embellished sweater $200

Current Elliot Moto Skinny Jeans

I am obsessing over motorcycle pants and jeans but can not find a pair that looks normal on me. Katie Holmes had a pair of Current/Elliott 's "The Moto Skinny Jean" in Overcast the other day that looks quite promising.  My problem with moto style jeans is that they bunch up on me and look sausage-y.  Hoping this pair has the proper amount of stretch!  Have you tried any moto jeans?  Suggestions?

Current/Elliott The Moto Skinny Jeans here. ($238)

Pink in Black Orchid

Spotted over the weekend in Philadelphia wearing spotty jeans-- Pink sure loves her Black Orchid Black Jewel Skinny jeans in Milkiway.  We cringed the last time she sported the jeans (with a white top and black hat) and the second time was not much better although she switched out her vest for a leather jacket and traded her flats for peeptoe heels. Black Jewel Skinny jeans in Milkiway retail for $114.00-- what do you think of the splattered look?

Denim Vests: Snob or Slob?

user-pic

jeans.JPG

I'm not a big denim person. On occasion I'll wear a pair of skin-hugging Sergio Valente jeans when I go out and when I'm feeling particularly lazy during the day I'll opt for some of my Old Navy ones (which are amazing actually! Old Navy has the BEST affordable jeans). Most of my other jeans are a big waste of space (I'm feeling guilty about them just sitting in my closet as I write this...). Oddly enough though I'm totally loving a distressed denim vest that I found in my closet at my parents place (must be at least 7 years old -- just goes to show you never know when something will come back in style!). I've been wearing it over a white tank with lots of layered necklaces. You couldn't pay me to wear jean skirts, over-alls, or a jean dress, but the vest works!

What do you think about denim vests for fall? Snob or Slob?

Clockwise--

How not to wear distressed denim

user-pic

audrinadistressedjeans.jpgcurrentelliot.jpg
Look, I grew up in the 80's and was a wanna be rock star like every other 16 year old in 1986-- no one loves a pair of slashed up jeans more than me! But there is a fine line between being on trend (meaning light distressing with a few tears, best if naturally occurred like my old levi's from college but Current Elliott is just as good) and being out right vulgar. Audrina Partridge should really invest in a full length mirror (don't look at her eyes, bad angle from the pap camera) because if she saw how ridiculous those jeans looked I'm sure she would have changed.

Go for Current/Elliott The Skinny Jean($216) option if you want the distressed look.  Trust me on this one.

Woodstock at 40: Get groovy with boho chic styles!

user-pic

woodstock.jpgwoodstock2.jpg
A lot happened in August of 1969. The first man walked on the moon... I was born.... oh and there was Woodstock. As Neil Armstrong stuck the star spangled banner on the moon and as I cried my first cries, boho chic hippies roamed in their Levi's and peasant blouses (sans bras of course). To celebrate the 40th anniversary of what's been touted as the "anti-fashion fashion event" (aka Woodstock), designers pay homage to the era when full frontal and free love ruled.

To Punk or not to Punk?

user-pic
punkchic.jpg I've been downloading my old favorites from the '80s via iTunes-- Adam Ant, The Go Go's, The Clash and many other New Wave/Punk Rock artists. I played a couple of Adam Ant tunes the other night when my 4 year old son and his friend were in the car and they asked "is this rock and roll?" I smiled and answered, "no, this is punk music. I loved punk when I was a kid". They giggled and shouted, "punk, punk, punk is funny!". The next morning at brunch with several family friends my son announced loudly, "My mommy was a punk when she was a kid". Very nice! Let's just hope he doesn't announce it to his teachers at pre-school. So for everyone's edification, I was never a punk (rocker or hoodlum) but like every other teenager in the 80's, just loved pretending I was cool to the punk rock scene although the closest I ever got to it was watching videos on MTV and window shopping at the many punk boutiques on Melrose. Though I won't risk looking like a freak on Folsom Street Fair in SF, I still do enjoy a few touches of rebellion. The key is keeping it to one piece of punk inspired accessory or clothes, not a head to toe look. But still, it's not a look for everyone. What do you think? To Punk, or not to Punk?  Check out these punk worthy styles below!

AG Angel Jeans

user-pic

ag_angeljeans.jpg

My jeans dilemma is like Sophie's Choice, too low and my gut hangs out, too high and my ass gets flattened. What's a girl to do (other than the obvious, diet). I pretty much have given up on finding the new "perfect" jeans after having to give away all my pre-baby jeans that no longer fit or have the glimmer of ever fitting again. So today, just cuz I had time to kill and had a really great SA to help me, I decided to start the hunt again. To my amazement and sheer joy, I found my new perfect BJF (best jeans forever, in case that was too cryptic)!! The AG Angels are just high enough to cover the muffin top but still gives the flattering butt low hip jeans are meant to do. And these are stretchy so if I am bloated, it will stretch over my gut instead of cut me off and produce an ever bigger muffin top. They are also thin so the perfect weight for the summer heat. I got the light wash, Lotto, since these will be my summer jeans. AG Angels at Revolve Clothing for $178.
