Chain me up and tie me down! J. Crew Jewels Rock!

jcrewchainsribbon.jpgIt's not hard to see the appeal of J. Crew jewels. Sexy, chic and affordable, what's not to like? My friend Kim wore a gorgeous mint colored necklace (below left) at her Easter party and I thought for sure it was Kenneth Jay Lane but she smiled and said "J. Crew!".

What?  I usually go to J. Crew for flip flops and summer tees, not for jewels!  And the best part is, most pieces are around $100 but look like they cost hundreds more.

There are so many pieces I want but the multi gold chain is the must have.  Throw on this disco fab necklace with a simple LBD or a white tee with black skinny jeans and you'll be the most stylish chick at the party.  Gold chains and ribbon Necklace $99 at J.crew.com

If you're a classic girl, you'll love the enamel necklaces below-- they look amazing with summer shift dresses or a plain white shirt with white pants.  Made of handset enamel stones-- $150-$175.

Frugal Snob- Make a Statement with bold Jewelry

Guest blog by Julia DiNardo -- the founder/editor of Fashion Pulse
We noticed that the Fall 2009 runways were rife with over-the-top, oversized necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Necklaces, in the form of layered chokers and bib styles were most popular, yet other forms of jewelry held their ground.  We particularly loved the jewelry from Elie Saab (necklaces), Andrew Gn (earrings), Camilla Staerk (broach), Reem Acra (necklaces), Blumarine (bracelets), Vera Wang (necklaces), Christian Siriano (earrings), and Oscar de la Renta (necklaces).

Especially prevalent on the runways were the stunning designs by Subversive Jewelry, seen at the Rachel Roy. J.Mendel, and Trovata shows.  To truly appreciate these stand-out pieces, consider how effortless they make getting dressed, adding style to the most basic of basics! Just think of how the perfect necklace can spice-up an oh so classic, yet oh so boring white oxford button-up!   We've picked some really fabulous budget-friendly options to help you get the oversized, statement jewelry look. Let's start with the bracelets: our favorite options were bulky, angular, and without a ton of ornamentation, such as the Tux Bracelet by Nicole Romano, $120, both at Vivre.com.

Cindy Chao: The Jewel Artist

cindychaobutterfly.jpg Star Sapphire and Diamond Ring by Cindy Chao $40,000. Snob readers receive a discount price of $35,000. Email the showroom to inquire!

If you've been reading the Snob sites for a while, you'll remember our now defunct site Jewel Snob (we've incorporated jewelry into Couture Snob because frankly, there are not enough hours in our day for another blog!) I featured jewelry designer Cindy Chao a year and half ago on the site and wanted to re-introduce her to all of you. Since we last heard from her, she has designed a million dollar diamond fan for deBeers (featured in Hong Kong Bazaar) that is now on a global tour in addition to growing her atelier and reputation as a world class Jewel Artist.  I can not think of a more appropriate name for her!  The FIT graduate has captured the hearts of her clients throughout the world with her ethereal designs (myself included-- I just got my first piece of Cindy Chao jewel art!) since leaving the Big Apple and shows no sign of slowing down.  Jump for more photos but a quick warning, you will want everything you see!  Email Cindy's showroom for info here.

Frugal Snob: Marc Jacobs Leather Bangles

marcjacobs_leatherbangles.png

These Marc Jacobs leather bangles are easy additions to your wardrobe that will go with anything if you get all the colors and mix and match as you need. And you can get all 6 colors without feeling a pinch because these are the deal of the century and they are not on sale, from an outlet or Marc by Marc Jacobs. I was at the Marc Jacobs boutique in LA on Melrose looking at their new bags and when I saw these bangles, I thought to myself, these would be great but are probably $100 each and as if reading my mind, the sales associate said, "These are only $7 each". SEVEN DOLLARS!! Pack them up, I said. And my 2 girlfriends with me did the same. Depending on what you have on you can wear the warm or cool tones together for perfect coordination no matter what. Or wear all of them! I put them with wider leather cuffs that I have for added dimension and layering. Call the Melrose Place store in LA before they sell out, 323.653.5100.

Dress it up with Geometrics

I love this Stella McCartney Silk blend bandage dress but it needs to be merchandised with a bit of bling.  Not over accessorizing but just a few details that will take it from simple to glamorous!  The copper geometric cuff from Missoni sets off the pinkness of the dress fabulously not to mention it's an inexpensive way to jewel up the dress.  The short sleeves of the dress will leave most of your arms bare which means the cuff will really stand out. Jump to see how to make this outfit even more eclectic!

Stella McCartney Silk bandage dress $1,295 at Net a Porter here. Missoni Copper geometric cuff $280 at  Net a Porter here.

Shopping the Spring Trends

Smart shopping for the season will help you save money and time. I'd start with shopping in your own closet first. If you can find favorite pieces that will work again, why not pull them out? sakstrends.jpg
1. Short Sleeve Jackets- We all have a short sleeve jacket in our closets, this is not a new trend but a timeless shape that returns every few season.  If you don't, check out Saks for a great selection.

2. Aggressive Shoes- Black, embellished, geometric.  Think dominatrix.  Win a fabulous pair of wedges from Joie at The Shoe Goddess site!

3. Oversize Jewelry- The bolder the better when it comes to jewels this season.  Pull out the bling and let it rock.  Check out the fabulous selections at Net-a-porter.com here!

4. Relaxed Cropped pants- This is an easy look to pull off for all body types.  Even your boyfriend's pants rolled up will work but I love this pair of Mara Hoffman Silk Cropped Pants .

5. Slouchy Bag- Hobos are back and there are many styles and colors to choose from.  I like a bright color for the summer-- check Bag Snob for the latest hobo bags!

6. Romantic Blouse- Will top off a pair of jeans or slouchy cropped pants beautifully.  There are many to choose from including this gorgeous Elizabeth and James Tokyo Top .

7. Brighter Lips- If nothing else, buy a bright lip gloss to update your look!  YSL Pur gloss has many great shades for the season.

Look of the Week: High Low Studding

headbandstuds.jpgAnyone who grew up in the 80's will remember the stacks of studded bracelets worn by punk rockers such as Adam Ant and Sid Vicious but it was made mainstream popular by Madonna. As a 13 year old in 1983, I was right in the midst of the trend. I wore studded belts with everything and tried to bedazzle studs in almost everything I owned. Now that I'm pushing 40, it's my last chance to re-live my youth without looking ridiculous! I'm obsessed with my Hermes Medor belts and have 3 different colors. I wear them with dresses, coats, jackets, whatever I can think of. I also have the Medor clutch in gray and a Medor bracelet in red-- I never wear these Medor pieces together because it is just too much! But now Hermes has tiny little Medor accessories that I can put on any kind of scarf or small leather strap and wear with my Medor stuff.

These little Medor pieces ($170) are not as pricey as the belt or bracelet so it's a great way for you frugal snobs to get the look without the cost. I put mine on a twilly scarf but just tried it on a black bandana and it looks snobulous! Play around with it to find your personal favorite but I love it as a headband or as a bracelet. I added a black studded strap wrap around bracelet from Forever 21 ($2.80) and my friends went nuts over the combo (who knew Hermes and Forever 21 would look so great together!?!?). They of course thought I spent a fortune but you guys know I love mixing high low! The little bracelets from Forever 21 come in blue, pink, white and brown with bronze studs (I got one in each color-- how could I not when it is only $2.80!?!?)  The bracelet below is the same scarf and hardware I had on my head earlier in the day, I took it off at lunch and wrapped it around my wrist and created a whole new look.   studbracelets.jpg
