COS Boutiques

user-pic

I came across COS while I was walking around Munich's town center. I had never heard of the boutique before and was surprised at the mild prices (most everything is under 129 euros), given the quality of the materials used. The bi-level store was choke-full of monochromatic pieces that appeared simple, but had small details (exposed zippers, ruching, cowl neck...) for both men and women making for great staples; kind of like a frugal Ports 1961, no? When I paid for my buys I asked the sales woman about the line and she told me that it actually is owned by H&M! So far boutiques are only in select European countries (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom), but hopefully they will roll out in the U.S. soon!

Frugal Snob: Two-Tone Rompers

user-pic

rompers.JPG

I still remember being in Paris for the S/S 2009 shows and going out at night and seeing all these chic Parisians in their rompers and jumpsuits. I just knew it was only a matter of months before they became ubiquitous in NYC as well. Here we are today -- for better or worse (and usually for worse!), I can't go one minute without seeing someone in some form of a jumpsuit. Personally jumpsuits aren't for me, rompers however I do like especially when they're two-toned and look like two-piece looks. Check-out some of these affordable finds!

Holmes & Yang by Katie Holmes and Jeanne Yang

user-pic

homesyang.jpg
Are you ready for Holmes & Yang, a line designed by Katie Holmes and her stylist Jeanne Yang!? I certainly am! I am always curious to see how well these celebrity designed/endorsed products turn out. There has been so much hype over this one and from what I hear, we will be surprised by how fab the line is. The line, which includes women's and children's wear, will launch exclusively at Maxfield in Los Angeles for fall. I'll be heading that way in a month or so and will check it out and report back to you. The jumpsuit Katie is wearing above is also from Holmes & Yang-- I like the black lace panel but am not a genie pant girl.  What about you, what do you think?

Proenza Schouler Beaded Satin Jumpsuit

ProenzaSchouler_BeadedJumpsuit.jpg

How rich do you feel? Rich enough to buy a scrap of sequin cloth stitched on pants for $10,000?  I mean if it were a gorgeous ball gown from say, Oscar de la Renta, then I'd understand.  But this is ridiculous, it looks like a bathing suit with harem pants.  Yes yes, it's high fashion but nowadays you have to do more than gimmicky fashion to attract real buyers.

Alice + Olivia Jumpsuit

user-pic
alice_olivia_jumpsuit.jpgI have been on an endless quest for the perfect jumpsuit and I think I've finally found one that makes sense on the body and the wallet. I tried on Alice + Olivia's Culotte jumpsuit yesterday and it is flattering even on a petite girl like me. It sits high on the waist and gives the illusion of a long silhouette-- even the slight harem culottes looked good because it didn't sag much in the crotch and tapers to a slim leg. The wide sash further accentuates the waist and made me look really skinny (always a good thing!).

$440 is not exactly dirt cheap but a lot more affordable than the $2,000+ version high end designers are pushing. The quality is not bad and you'll get your money's worth out of this one.

How to work the YSL jumpsuit

user-pic
ysl_gray_jumpsuit.jpgysl_black_patent_belt.jpg
We've all decided jumpsuits are snob but saggy crotch harem pants are total slob. But I can't stop obsessing over the YSL jumpsuit!  The sequin version we dissed over the weekend did not look good in the photo and is way to expensive to purchase and experiment with but this grey jersey knit one is at least affordable.  It's actually very wearable-- especially if you merchandise it up a bit. I tried this on over the weekend and the only thing that will pull up the sag is a cinched in belt. I happen to try it on with my YSL belt (the savior for everything in my closet that didn't work before!) and it instantly went from slob to snob!  You really need to go try the jumpsuits on in person to see how it will look.  Photos do not do it!   Strapless Jersey Knit Jumpsuit is $990 at Saks.

The must have Black Patent Belt from YSL is $375  Go try it out and tell me what you think!

YSL Sequin Jumpsuit: Snob or Slob?

user-pic

ysl_sequin_jumpsuit.jpg
I love the idea of a sequin jumpsuit; I had two from Mark Eisen in the '90s-- one of which was a purple sequined number Kate Moss wore on the cover Vogue that I got from Mark himself because he knew I was obsessed with her. I do like the idea of this one, too but it just doesn't flatter. I mean if I were 5'11" with stick thin legs I'd jump on it but anyone smaller will be a saggy sack of a mess. What do you think? Snob or Slob? YSL Sequin Strapless Jumpsuit $4,350 at Net-a-porter.com

Marc Jacobs Velvet Jumpsuit

user-pic

marcjacobs_velvetjumpsuit.jpg

Trend Alert! The hottest thing coming off the runway for Spring 2009 is the jumpsuit! Get a "jump" this Fall with this Marc Jacobs velvet number, much more forgiving than the strapless and the tapered leg ones shown, which are meant for the impossibly tall and thin. Just coming back from Fashion Week, I am in shock by how much skinnier the models are each season. How much smaller can they go before they just shrivel up and disappear? Sure, on the runway they look great but as a normal functioning human, it looks depressing. Being a mom, I just want to invite them over for my famous roast chicken and pasta. For the healthy 5'6" 130 lbs smoking hot babes or even those who are curvier and sexy, this forgiving but HOT jumpsuit is the perfect canvas to over accessorize with this season's big, bright and bold necklaces! The top is a mock coat and will cover up the pooch left by holiday indulgences. Pair this with a wide belt and you can go ahead and hit that dessert table with a vengeance. At Net a Porter for $4100.
