Peep Toes are not Toe Holes

Christian Louboutin Scarpe Platform Slingbacks ($1095)icon; Jimmy Choo Peep-Toe Platforms ($650)icon; Oscar de la Renta Peep-Toe Pumps ($675)icon

Peep toes are sexy and chic. But, and here is a very important BUT, your toes really need to stay contained IN the peep hole, otherwise it is a disgusting mess. If there is one pet peeve of mine that drives me completely mad, it is the big toe jutting out of the peep toe. The operative word here is "peep", you get a glimpse. I see girls with their big toe completely hanging out and off the shoe and I just want to shake some sense into her. It's like, did you really think that's what that hole is there for? For your big toe to come out like a turtle's head? NO!!! There are many options for peep toes that fit all feet and toes. If you have issues with a renegade toe, try peep toes with a smaller opening, like these Oscar de la Renta Peep-Toe Pumpsicon or if you find that it is caused by your foot sliding forward, foot straps like the one on the Jimmy Choo Peep-Toe Platformsicon will hold your foot in place. The peep toes on Louboutins are more centered so the big toe will keep more to one side, the Christian Louboutin Scarpe Platform Slingbacksicon with the stacked platform is so HOT, these are the newest of the collection and is already an instant classic. I do not like the tiny peep toes, but if you must go there then do it. Please!!

Insanely Fabulous Alaia Platforms

alaiacutoutplatforms.jpgI can't explain the allure of Azzedine Alaia. I mean the man has not done anything different for, like, 20 years but his little stretchy dresses still cause as much stir today as they did in the '80s. Perhaps that is his brilliance, why fix it if it's not broken right? I have a few key pieces of clothing from Alaia and don't feel like I ever need to buy any more, ever. A slim fit A line skirt, a cardigan and a sexy black dress-- basics I wear over and over, so what else does a girl need from Alaia?

A pair of fierce Alaia platforms! So it costs as much as your mortgage payment but let's not talk about that right now (I just know it will go on sale and I will wait until the last markdown like I did with the black satin and crocodile pair that I picked up for $270 that originally retailed for $1,850-- my size is always left, sometimes being the shortest girl in the 'hood is not such a bad thing!). Instead, let's discuss the beautifully hand cut lace pattern, also an Alaia signature.  Peekaboo toe, ankle strap and insane 5" heel make them the perfect party shoes!  And I don't care if I'll look like I'm wearing stilts.  These are the baddest stilts on earth!  They are  $1,670 (gasp for air, go ahead, I'll wait) but like I said, I know they will make it to sale.  So I'm waiting.  If you're a size 7 I'd be more worried.  Email Eddie Curtis (my enabler, damn him!) for more details!

Buy Christian Louboutin, Save Elephants!

louboutinelephants.jpgNot that you need an excuse to buy Louboutin shoes but how can you refuse a great cause? The Shoe Goddess turned us on to these fab pink platform shoes from Christian Louboutin made for Foot Candy.  All proceeds will go to to the GTAEF charity (Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation), which help rescue elephants from the streets of Thailand!

You can read more about the rescued elephants at www.elerescue.org.

I am dying to click on size 35.5 while it's still available but really can't justify buying a thousand dollar pair of pink fabric shoes to save elephants in Asia when our own economy is suffering so badly.  Child abuse in the US is at an all time high-- our kids need our help (I'm actually looking for items for silent auction for the Children Advocacy Gala-- if you are a designer or in PR and can help, email me!!  But hey, if you were planning to pick up a new pair of Loubies anyway, why not save an elephant or two while you're at it.  $895 at Footcandy.

Prada Pre-Fall 2009 Shoes

pradaprefall09.jpg
pradaprefall091.jpgHow hot are these Prada shoes for Pre-Fall?  I want all of them but am especially obsessed with this black strappy platform pair on the left. The cutout shoe shape continues strong for the next season so if you got a pair this season, keep them!  Prada shoes are not the most comfortable for me though. The arch is always too exaggerated and the sole is not cushioned enough but it's getting much better due to the higher platform.  Prada shoes are also more reasonably priced than the competition-- $620 is no bargain but compared to $1,020 for a pair of double platform Loubousins it feels like a steal!   $620-$695 Pre-order Prada Pre-Fall Shoes here.

Weekend Shopping: Frugal Snob- Stuart Weitzman "Tijuana" platforms

I don't think I've ever bought Stuart Weitzman shoes but these Tijuana platforms are making me re-think the brand of (semi) affordable shoes. I love the multi strap with platform, it's gladiator without being too exaggerated and still has a bit of sex appeal. I saw them at Saks, tried them on and almost bought them but am not sure how they wear so I decided to wait until I consulted my fellow shoe snobs. Can anyone tell me if Stuart Weitzman shoes are 1. Comfy after hours of wear and 2. Sturdy enough to last the season?

In love with Givenchy shoes but not the price? Get a pair now on sale at Zappos.com (free shipping, easy returns with label-- you can not go wrong at Zappos!) There are many styles on sale but I'm loving the taupe or black satin platforms. They have a 40's retro vibe with the ultra chunky heel and platform. Satin shoes are not only for evenings, they are great during the day with a pair of skinny jeans or leggings!
Givenchy - (Taupe Satin) here

Get Caged

ysl_cage_collection.jpg

Loving the cage platforms-- they are the only pair that feel normal. The YSL cage collection has gotten a lot of press lately and I finally tried on the booties but they felt, well, cagey. The platforms, however, are really hot! It's a great summer sandal with white dresses or leggings-- 1" platform and 4.5" heel. All at YSL.com with Free shipping.

Frugal Snob: Alexandre Birman is cheap and CHIC!

alexandrebirman.jpgalexandrebirmanback.jpg

I just got a pair of Alexandre Birman python platforms for a fraction of other python shoes. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price tag for $575! And it's not just scraps of python thrown on some heels; there are incredible details like braided python and ribbon weaving (so yes, it's scraps of python put to very creative use!).  This just means we're just getting ripped off by other designers because obviously python shoes should not cost $3,000. Alexandre Birman is the hottest Brazilian import since the thong bikini-- I predict he'll be on the lips and heels of every fashionista on the planet very soon.

The shoes are also very lightweight and ultra comfortable! There is a pair that zips up the top but I got the pair above in gray and white python. TO DIE. If you buy no other shoe this season, invest in a pair of these because come Fall you'll rock them with gray tights!!! There are several different styles and heel heights, starting at $290 for python wedges. At Neiman Marcus. Email my Neiman Marcus personal shopper Connie Dieb for a pair! or call 972-342-0015

Louboutin makes good (expensive) use of Barneys' Trash

louboutinbarneystrash.jpgIn anticipation of Earth Day, Christian Louboutin makes good use of recycled trash from Barneys New York and laminates them on his iconic platform slingbacks. I love this idea, it's a great way to wear, uh, trash. But hello? A thousand bucks for trash? And come to think of it, how eco-friendly is PVC?

The shoes are exclusive to Barneys (what, Neimans didn't want Barneys' trash?) and are available now for $995.

What say you my snobs? Snob or Slob?
