Jason Wu introduced his new eyewear collection with Modo on the runway of his Spring 2010 show on September 11th, 2009. The collection will arrive in-stores this January. "Launching an eyewear collection felt like a natural progression for the Jason Wu brand," explained designer Jason Wu. "The pieces combine sleek, modern finishes, which I love, with unusual materials and details. I wanted to put my stamp on an item which would be accessible to a broader market  and  with an inherently chic connotation--sunglasses." The sunglass and optical collection was inspired by the modern and innovative ready-to-wear collections of designer Jason Wu. It will consist of four styles, two feminine and two unisex, and will be available in four to five finishes per style. The colors include semi-translucent crystals in aquamarine, topaz, onyx, opal, olivine, noir, caramel and richly textured tortoise. The shapes include:

1) Seberg: An updated cat-eye, slightly rounded with metal brow detail.
2) Earhart: An oversized aviator with metal brow bar and end piece.
3) Jett: A quirky, retro-inspired shape.
4) Mia : A timeless, oversized frame with beveled edges.

The materials include handmade Japanese plastic with double-brushed stainless steel details and double-gradient CR-39 lenses. Each style is distinguished by subtle logo treatments in one of four different accent colors, which correspond to the interior treatments on Jason's garments. The collection will retail for $275.

Chloe Sevigny Alexander Wang for Linda Farrow

user-pic

I'm supposed to report on these new sunglasses by Alexander Wang for Linda Farrow ($325) but I can't get over Chloe's jeans!  This is why Earl jeans came into fashion in the early 90s, no?  Because the high waisted ones were so unflattering?  But back to the glasses, Alexander Wang has created a line of sunglasses for Linda Farrow and though I wouldn't wear these in public, they certainly will come in handy come Halloween.  Check out the entire line here.

Edward Beiner- The Purveyor of Snob Eyewear

It's difficult to remain an indie in the world of big corporations but Edward Beiner eyewear has managed to not only stay in business but is expanding- and gaining quite the following along its way. The understated elegance and classic cool of his frames-both regular and prescription, are enough to make believers out of some of Hollywood's most fashionable. Jennifer Lopez, Lindsay Lohan, Heidi Klum and Alicia Keys are already loyal customers, all of whom visit his nine Florida locations regularly.  I am a huge fan of his aviator frames, they are lightweight and fit better than Oliver Peoples aviators.  Check out Edward Beiner eyewear selections here.

I was embarrassed to admit my obsession of The Row when it first launched, I mean, from the twins of Full House!?!?  But after many solid seasons, The Row has proven itself to be a covet worthy brand with must have basics to layer in one's wardrobe. Very excited to hear their foray into accessories (do we think bags are in the horizon, definitely!).  First up, eye wear-- Barneys is receiving The Row sunglasses collection one month before anyone else in the USA!  They will be at the stores the last week in December-- we've got exclusive photos for you but you'll have to go in to the stores to get your paws on them.  All Styles are $325.

user-pic

DerekLamJA.jpgWe are having a love affair with all things inspired by the 80's including these urban chic sunglasses from Derek Lam on Jessica Alba.  Love the smaller size on Jessica and the color could not be more perfect on her.  I'm really over super oversized peepers that make you look like a giant bug!  What about you, are you sporting giant round shades with logos?  Sunglasses are $275 at Derek Lam boutique.  Call Wayne 212-966-1616

Heart Shaped Sunglasses: Snob or Slob?

user-pic

heartshapedglasses.jpg
Some girls wear their hearts on their sleeves, others, like the celebs here-- prefer them on their faces.  Me, I don't really like them but am not opposed to a pair for fun if they cost under $10.  I'm sure Drew paid much more than ten bucks for hers but I found a huge selection from $6-$8-- click the link below to see the colors!  What do you think of heart shaped glasses-- should we leave it to the grade schoolers?

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Lego Sunglasses

user-pic

LEGO.jpgDIY is all the rage these days -- everyone seems to want their apparel and accessories to have a personal touch. I recently wrote about the Ray Ban Colorize Kit and was indecisive about whether or not to get one. I'm glad I held off. I'm completely obsessed with these Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Lego sunglasses. I first read about them on Dazed Digital and have since e-mailed my friend Christine who is based in Paris to pick me up a pair. I've long been a fan of JC/DC and my absolute favorite show of all time was his Lego-inspired S/S 2009 showing at the Louvre in Paris during Fashion Week -- I was seated a few feet away from Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno character (hope that scene makes the film!), and I loved that the designer had a sense of humor about the comedian crashing his show. Yes the actual glasses look pretty cheap and no I will probably never wear these in public, but they are so classic JC/DC (plus I know that between my bf and my brother, both of whom were once Lego devotees, someone will proudly wear them). What do you think about this Lego concoction?

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac PLUG sunglasses available now at JCDC stores at 50-51 Conduit Street, London W1 or 10 rue vauvilliers, 75001 Paris for 110 euros.

Celeb Trend: Color Rimmed Sunglasses

user-pic
Lily Allen Ray.jpg colorize.jpg Come summer I live in my aviator Ray-Bans. Now, it seems that stars and street fashion folks seem to be all about Ray Bans as well -- not the aviators, but the retro Wayfarer style. Everyone I know seems to have snatched-up the iconic style in one color or another (last spring Ray-Ban partnered with Marie Claire to launch a line of colored Wayfarers), so I was excited to see the Ray-Ban Colorize Kit displayed at Bendel's. It comes with markers, stencils, and a pair of white Wayfarer shades that you can customize yourself so you can stand-out from everyone else wearing color-rimmed sunglasses. I'm seriously tempted to pick-up one of these kits even though I have no artistic ability whatsoever and Wayfarers don't look good on me. I just love the idea of putting a personal touch on my sunglasses! Has anyone customized their own Ray-Ban shades?

Bottega Veneta 88S Sunglasses

user-pic

bottegaveneta_88s.png

If it weren't for my $500 limit on sunglasses, these would be mine. Angelina Jolie was seen recently in a pair of Bottega Veneta plastic frame, boring ole sunglasses and everyone went ga-ga and those sold out everywhere. But you can easily get a pair similar to that for $20. These, however, are unique and cannot be copied with enough proficiency to make them acceptable. They look a bit strange and maybe cartoon-y but when they are on, they are not only perfectly normal but uber stylish and totally to-die-for. But not to-die-for at $650. See, my limit is high, and with sunglasses, they ALWAYS get lost or broken. These are one of the few frames that fit my face and sit on my nose instead of on my cheeks. And they are super lightweight and comfortable. You can't see through the cutout parts so it won't strain your eye in any way, in case you were worried about that. At Bottege Veneta online or at their boutiques for $650.

Charley Sunglasses from Jimmy Choo

user-pic

charley_jimmy_choo_sunglasses.jpgcharley_jimmy_choo_sunglasses_2.jpg
I am a Tom Ford sunglasses girl; they are flattering on almost everyone and are incredibly lightweight. I own a dozen other pairs from Oliver Peoples, Prada, Chanel, etc but always go back to my Tom Ford "Whitney" glasses. At the Jimmy Choo/Vogue party last week, however, I fell in love with "Charley" from JC. Aviators are one of my favorite styles but the metal can be heavy and the nose pads uncomfortable. The Charley is made of ruthenium frame which is feather light! I put them on for fun because I loved the metal stud detail on the sides and fell in love immediately. Graduated gray shades offer 100% UVA/UVB production to boot. Sold. $295 at Jimmy Choo.com

What about you? What are your favorite sunglasses?
